DONATIONS AND GRANTS NEEDED

New Hope Community Church is a small church in an economically depressed neighborhood. We are barely able to meet our mortgage, taxes, and other obligations. Accordingly, it is financially very difficult for us to deal with unexpected issues or unplanned opportunities. For this reason we are asking YOU if you can help us with a number of issues:

• Cash for Thanksgiving 2009 Feast. We traditionally have a meal after Thanksgiving Service to feed visitors and people in the neighborhood, and use this time to get to know them better and acquaint them with our church and its ministries and community services.
  We need: Between $400-600 in cash donations.
   
• Heating and Air Conditioning. Our heating and air conditioning equipment was installed more than 30 years ago and is beginning to fail. We estimate it will cost approximately $30,000 to replace this equipment.
  We need: Either $30,000 cash - or - donated equipment. We may also need someone familiar with the city permitting process to help us file for our permit.
   
• Programmable Sign. For the past few years we have been using a vinyl banner sign with changeable letters to let the community and passersby know about services our church offers, changes in schedule, events etc. and it has been remarkably effective. Recently however the city has banned the use of such signs in residential neighborhoods and we are not able to communicate this information in an effective manner. The city DOES however allow the use of programmable LED or video signs (with a variance), but these cost somewhere between $30,000 and $45,000.
  We need: Either $30,000 cash - or - a donated programmable sign. We may also need someone familiar with the city permitting process to help us file for our permit.
   
• Shelving for Food Closet. We need sturdy warehouse-type shelving for storage of canned goods and other dry goods in our storeroom.
  We need: About $2,000 cash - or - donated shelving.
   
• Refrigerated Outbuilding for Food Closet. Our weekly Food Closet would like to distribute meat and more dairy products, but we are unable to do this for lack of refrigeration. Our food sources have indicated they can readily provide all of the food of this type that we need IF we can provide refrigeration. We believe the best solution will be a refrigerated marine shipping container.
  We need: Approximately $6,000 cash - or - donated shipping container; and cash or electrician expertise to provide power for the unit.
   
• Food Closet Truck Upkeep. Reverend Michael Christopher and his Bread of Life Ministries provide at least two truckloads of food for our weekly Food Closet ministry. Reverend Michael normally pays all operational costs for this truck out of his own pocket. This truck needs fuel, maintenance and repairs, insurance, vehicle registration, and a fund to replace tires as needed or perform emergency repairs.
  We need: Donations or cash grants of approximately $8,000 to keep this vitally needed truck operating in tip top condition.
