NEW HOPE FOOD CLOSET MINISTRY
|
According to the US Census of 2000, one in three persons in the Meadowview community (zip code 95832) are living at or below the poverty level. Accordingly, in August 2007 New Hope Community Church partnered with Michael Christopher's Bread of Life Ministries to host a local food closet.
We currently distribute between 150 to 250 food packets per week. Each packet feeds about 3 people in a household. We need YOUR help to keep this vital ministry going:
- Donate shopping bags. We use 300 - 400 bags every week for food packets. We need ANY bags you can give us, large or small, plastic or paper. A collection bin is located near the sound booth bags.
- Donate Ziploc bags and food service gloves. Frequently we receive bulk-pack items that must be repackaged into family-sized bags. We average 100-200 resealable bags and 4-6 pairs of food service gloves weekly to accomplish this.
- Cash Donations. We buy many food items, food service gloves and other incidentals as needed. We also need cash for fuel, service, licensing and insurance for our delivery truck. Donations may be sent to

People in our community are diverse and so are the faces you see in line. |
 |
When you see the little ones, you know you are doing the right thing. |
 |
In bad (or extremely hot) weather, we move the distribution into the sanctuary. |
 |
Our church is also multi-ethnic and reflects the makeup of the community. |
 |
The looks on this family's faces says it all. |
 |
We try to provide a healthy mix of dairy, produce, baked goods and staples. |
 |
These people are now our "surrogate family" - we love them and we let them know it. |

Can you help?
We need a number of things to meet our immediate needs and short term goals:
REFRIGERATED OUTBUILDING. We need a building to store our food items. Currently we distribute only limited dairy items to our recipients, and no meat at all. Our institutional food donors tell us they will provide these meat and dairy items when we have the proper refrigeration. Can you provide a low-cost (donated?) refrigerated building (or even an overseas refrigerated shipping container)?
TRANSPORTATION FUNDS. God blessed Rev. Michael and Bread of Life Ministries with a wonderful truck to replace the decrepit van he previously used to transport food. With this truck we now get more food, with better quality, and in fewer trips. Unfortunately, it IS a commercial vehicle and costs quite a bit for: fuel, service, licensing and insurance. Can you pledge approximately $8,000 - a year's support for the operation of our truck?
CONSUMABLE GOODS. Each month we need 700-1000 paper grocery bags, 700-1000 plastic grocery bags, 600-800 quart or gallon sized ziploc bags, and 2-3 dozen food service gloves. Can you provide our consumables on an ongoing basis?
IF YOU CAN HELP WITH ANY OF THESE ITEMS, please contact Larry Hodge at 916-501-2691.

DONATIONS NEEDED
Did you know our heating and air conditiong equipment is more than 30 years old and is beginning to fail? This is only one of many issues that we are facing, and unable to afford using normal budgeted church funds. Can YOU help us? Check out our Donors Page to find out!

ALERT!
We are in desperate need of
1) paper grocery bags for food packets
2) a refrigerated storage building and
3) cash donations for gasoline and food purchases.
We need to store more food due to the unusually large number of people coming through line. Also, our institutional donors have indicated they can provide more food if we can provide refrigeration..
Please, whatever you can donate is desperately needed! |
